Determinator

What IS a Determinator?

According to TV Tropes the answer is:

A character - good or evil, male or female, young or old - who never gives up. Ever. No matter what.
There is no stopping the Determinator. They do not understand tact. They do not Know When to Fold 'Em, and it's a waste of time to tell them the odds. No one can reason with them. They'll do whatever they have to without question. No price is too great to pay for success, up to and including their own life (and others'). Do not expect them to realize they might be better off letting it go, even if they can barely stand. If you're ever kidnapped or lost with no hope of rescue, they'll be the one who will find you. Their adversaries will shout, in exasperated rage, "Why Won't You Die?!". For them, there is no line between "perseverance" and "insanity."

Some Real-Life Determinators, according to TV Tropes, are:

Arnold Schwarzenegger - his past included an unhappy home, but he went on to become a body-builder, actor, businessman, politician, etc.

Walt Disney -   Screen entertainment / animation - Disney - faced with multiple failures, and hard financial times, he never gave up.

Thomas Alva Edison - Scientist - "brute force method" - never gave up and eventually became the inventor of the incandescent light bulb.

J.K. Rowling - Harry Potter - went from living off government benefits to multi-millionaire status in five years, despite the odds.

Steve Jobs - Apple & NeXT Apple.

Stephen Hawking - Re-wrote the world of theoretical physics and published best-sellers after being diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, a degenerative nerve disease.

Patrick Swayze - Actor - worked even under treatment for pancreatic cancer.

Howard Schultz - was rejected 242 times by investors before finally getting the needed capital for Starbucks.

Christopher Reeve - Superman - continued his acting career even after being paralyzed from the neck down and had to live on a ventilator.

What do all these people have in common that ensured their success, despite the odds against them?

DETERMINATION.

They never gave up.

And that is the key to success despite what appears to be a failure. Never take your eyes off of your destiny, your goals, your dreams. When failure happens, learn from the mistakes and start again, immediately, changing what needs to be changed and try, try again. Devote yourself fully to whatever enterprise you chose and there will be no stopping you.

"In reality, when you have once devoted your life to your enterprises, you are no longer the equal of other men, or, rather, other men are no longer your equals, and whosoever has taken this resolution, feels his strength and resources doubled."

That is why I have chosen this particular word for my Positive Living endeavors. When asked to describe who she perceived me to be, in only one word, my youngest daughter, now almost 15 years old, answered:

Determined.

I like that.

And it's true.

Determined to move from negative thinking to positive thinking.

Determined to go from poverty to prosperity through positive living.

Determined to teach others how to make these changes as I myself learn, and succeed.

Determined to be an inspiration for others like many of my mentors have been and are to me.

It's important to have a guide to show you the way when your traveling on a new journey, especially in life, and as I follow my mentors on this new and exciting path in my life I intend to be that guide, that mentor for others who choose to #makethechange.

If this blog has encouraged you, consider sharing it with others who may need encouragement today.
