The Importance of Mentors
For successful people mentors are a must. There isn't a question about it. Everyone needs a mentor, especially when one is embarking on the journey of changing one's life.
Take one of my mentor's, Jim Rohn, for example. He shared so much in his lifetime about change and successful living and his teachings have inspired and continue to inspire so many people even today. Jim said:
"Life is about constant, predictable patterns of change, and the only constant factor will be our feelings and attitudes toward life. We as human beings have the power of attitude and that attitude determines choice, and choice determines results. All that we are and all that we can become has indeed been left to us to decide and interpret through our attitude and choices." - Jim Rohn
We must have someone, or several someones, to guide us through the process of change. To inspire us with hope that what we want to achieve is possible. To show us how to get back up once we've fallen. And we will fall, all the way to the top, if we never give up.
This is especially true when we're facing dark times in our lives when there appears to be little or no hope for achieving our goals and dreams. At these times, even a simple encouragement from someone else who has experienced what we're going through can make all the difference in the world.
I remember watching a documentary about Walt Disney and the many struggles, failures and financial obstacles he faced, and his unwillingness to give up his dream no matter how hard things became and I witnessed that burning desire he had to achieve his goals. In fact, he found the challenge of doing the impossible fun.
And somewhere, down deep inside I, too, felt the burning desire within me for my own goals and destiny come to life once more. Inspired by the great disappoints, trials, and various successes of Disney's life, I became encouraged by the fact that this highly successful, well-known man faced a lot of the same trials that I myself have faced and yet, he overcame them all.
It was like a light switch had been turned on and, in that moment, I again found hope. My future, my destiny, my goals could still be accomplished.
I realized that sometimes you just have to go through some tough things, but if you will keep that burning desire of your destiny alive within you, success will surely follow. And I knew that I, too could overcome whatever life throws my way.
I have many mentors which inspire me, some who no longer with us but who have left valuable instructions, insight and information behind for those of us who choose to make a change.
These mentors include:
These are just some of my mentors. Others include my church Pastor, successful business leaders in my industries, and more.
Finding a good mentor is important. Your mentor must be someone from whom you can:
No two mentors are the same, although some may possess similar traits, beliefs, and success, they each have their own personalities and gifts and the one, or ones, you chose should be a good fit for you.
Additionally, a good mentor is someone with a different perspective who will help you face your faults, see the world differently through their eyes and inspire your growth.
Mentors are great for all aspects of our lives including our personal development, spiritual growth, business success, family relationships, and more.
Once you have a set goal, something that you want to change, be it your business, finances, relationships, etcetera then you can begin the process of finding a mentor who can help you to achieve that goal.
